Let’s Talk Bathroom Organisation!

Free standing bathtub

This month on the blog, we're tackling small bathroom organisation — how to declutter, maximise space, and avoid the common storage mistakes I see all the time in clients’ homes. I'm not an interior designer, so this isn't about aesthetics — it's about function, flow, and feeling less overwhelmed in one of the most-used rooms in the house.

I hope you’ll follow along, and as always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Happy reading!

A Mistake I Made (and What I Learned)

Let me start with a MASSIVE mistake I made in my own home: I ripped out our old bathtub and replaced it with a gorgeous walk-in shower — only to realise we really miss the tub! Well, my husband and daughter miss it more than I do 😅. Maybe one day I’ll be sharing some renovation tips on how to put a bathtub back in!

How to Maximise Storage in a Small Bathroom

Bathrooms are often the smallest room in the home, but they need to store a lot. From beauty products to toilet rolls, towels, and cleaning supplies — it all needs to fit in, and it all needs to be easy to access. Here are my top tips for creating more space, avoiding clutter, and keeping everything in order.

🚿 Top Bathroom Organisation Tips

1. Stop Buying in Bulk (Unless You Have Backup Storage)

It’s tempting to buy toiletries on offer — but unless you have a dedicated backup storage area outside the bathroom, those duplicates can overload your space fast.

2. Ditch Open Shelving

Open shelves may look nice on Pinterest, but in real life they collect dust and get grimy quickly due to bathroom moisture. Closed storage is easier to clean and keeps things looking tidy.

3. Use Containers & Labels

Bathrooms are full of small bits — contact lenses, hair clips, tweezers. Use containers and group items by category:
🧴 Face | 🪥 Teeth | 🧖‍♀️ Body | 💇‍♀️ Hair
Label everything clearly so everyone in the house knows where things belong.

4. Maximise Vertical Space

Maximise the space vertically by adding shelves above the toilet

If you have the room, invest in a tall standing cabinet or a mirrored wall cabinet. Don’t forget under-sink storage — even small drawers or baskets can make a big difference.

5. Use the Space Above the Toilet

Add a shelf above the toilet to house a plant or a basket for spare toilet rolls. It's functional and looks nice.

6. Add Multi-Use Furniture

Stool with hidden storage

A small stool with hidden storage is ideal for hiding away cleaning products or spare toiletries while doubling as a seat or step for little ones.

7. Decant for a Luxurious Feel

For a luxurious feel, decant shampoo, conditioner, and body wash into matching glass bottles.

Want your bathroom to look a little more spa-like? Decant shampoo, conditioner, and body wash into matching glass bottles — it’s a simple change that makes the space feel more intentional.
